Earlier this week, Max wrote on Twitter, “People don’t get just how close we are to true high bandwidth neural interfaces. From a world of atoms to a world of bits within — not long!” In responding to a follow-up question, Max said we may shift to a world of bits within a decade, but it “depends on how much we want it.”

For those who are unfamiliar, neural interfaces are a connection for communication between a brain and a device. In the case of Neuralink specifically, it’s likely they’ll be able to develop a high bandwidth neural interface within a decade. It would connect someone’s brain to a computer and enable communication at an extremely fast speed, hence the “high bandwidth” descriptor. From now until then, the line between man and machine is gonna shrink more and more until eventually merging together.
